Fearing exposure to the coronavirus, organizations canceled blood drives in droves early in the pandemic. But after the American Red Cross and blood banks called on people to give blood to combat a major shortage, an uptick in donations helped our nation avoid a crisis.
Unfortunately, we’re not in the clear yet. As states ease stay-at-home restrictions, hospitals are resuming surgeries, renewing the demand for blood. Hospitals and blood banks across the country are once again experiencing severe shortages.
It’s time for us to help. However, the virus still has some people uneasy about giving blood. Rest assured that there has been no evidence or reported cases of the coronavirus being transmitted by a blood transfusion. Additionally, the Red Cross is adhering to strict mandates to keep you safe when you donate:
Checking temperatures of staff and donors
Following social distancing practices
Providing hand sanitizer
Disinfecting surfaces and equipment
Requiring staff to wear masks
How You Can Help

We hope you join us in teaming up with the Red Cross and #CaringForOurCommunities.
