MT. STERLING, Ill. – Dot Foods, Inc., North America’s largest food industry redistributor, is proud to announce the company has earned certification as a Great Place to Work® for the second consecutive year. Beginning in 2021, Dot has partnered with the Great Place to Work, the global leader in workplace culture, to survey and assess employee experience.
“We highly value employee feedback and conduct annual surveys, aligning with Dot’s culture of continuous improvement,” said Dot Foods CEO Joe Tracy. “For the second year, we chose to work with Great Place to Work® in conducting those surveys. We pride ourselves on our workplace culture here at Dot. Culture is something we have to continuously prioritize and nurture. The survey feedback helps give us the insight needed to continuously enhance our positive employee experiences.”
Thousands of companies worldwide use Great Place to Work’s® Trust Index Survey©, which serves as the data source for the annual Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® list and more than 70 Best Workplaces ™ lists. The 60-question survey is designed to measure five key focus areas: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.
“Great Place to Work Certification™ isn’t something that comes easily – it takes ongoing dedication to the employee experience,” said Sarah Lewis-Kulin, vice president of global recognition at Great Place to Work. “It’s the only official recognition determined by employees’ real-time reports of their company culture. Earning this designation means that Dot Foods is one of the best companies to work for in the country.”’
About 6,500 employees across the United States and Canada had a one-month window in which to complete the survey this summer. This year the company increased employee participation in the survey process and improved its results; 78 percent of respondents said that Dot is a great place to work, up two percent from 2021. A typical U.S. company scores 59 percent, according to Great Place to Work’s® research.
Additional areas that showed positive response include community involvement, employee engagement, and Dot’s continuous work on its inclusion and diversity journey.
“The information we can gather by partnering with Great Place to Work helps us better understand where we stand in the eyes of our employees,” explained Matt Holt, Dot’s vice president of Human Resources. “We are digging into all the great new data and working to further develop corporate action plans. This year, we will also develop departmental action plans, based on employee feedback, so we can address areas of opportunity. This will help us retain and recruit stellar employees going forward to meet the needs of Dot’s growth.”
According to Great Place to Work research, job seekers are 4.5 times more likely to find a great boss at a certified great workplace. Additionally, employees at certified workplaces are 93% more likely to look forward to coming to work, and are twice as likely to be paid fairly, earn a fair share of the company’s profits and have a fair chance at promotion.
“This is my first experience as a remote worker,” said Matt Stascavage, marketing analyst. “The people here have gone above and beyond to make me feel welcome and part of the team. It speaks to the culture and character of those who work at Dot, and that’s really what makes this company a great place to work.”
Truck driver Charles Harryman is one of the company’s newest employees, hired to work at its 13th U.S. distribution center, which is currently under construction in Manchester, Tennessee.
“Dot is not a regular trucking company,” he explained. “You can talk to anyone and get answers. They treat you like family and not a number. Being named a Great Place to Work® means we take care of our people. Most trucking companies don’t have that quality or good reviews. When you see things like this, you know it’s more than a normal trucking company. “
Making sure that culture impacts all employees at all Dot locations is a priority. Warehouse worker Jacob Baker has been part of the team at the company’s Indiana location for 13 years.
“I feel appreciated working for Dot, not just by local leadership, but by the Tracy family and other managers in the business,” Baker explained. “I am treated like I matter. I have worked places where that didn’t happen, but I’ve always felt that at Dot. I’m proud to work here and really happy Dot was named a Great Place to Work® again.”
