MT. STERLING, Ill. – Dot Transportation, Inc. (DTI), an affiliate of Dot Foods, Inc., unveiled a new trailer that is custom-designed to honor and thank its drivers. The driver appreciation trailer will tour the 12 Dot Foods U.S. distribution centers (DCs).
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, DTI, like most carriers, is coming off two of its most challenging years, making the timing right to do something special to recognize its more than 1,600 drivers companywide.
The incredible achievements of DTI’s drivers are included in the trailer’s design. Four of the fleet’s drivers have logged more than 4 million miles of driving; 33 drivers have logged over 3 million miles; 92 drivers have reached 2 million plus miles of driving, and 454 drivers have logged 1 million miles.
“Those mileage totals are a testament to the skill and professionalism all of our drivers bring to work each day,” said Bryan Langston, DTI President. “We are proud to recognize our drivers with this trailer, especially after the way they’ve embraced all the challenges of the last two years. DTI has the best drivers out there, who all play a critical role in keeping our country fed.”
Dick Kramberg is DTI’s longest tenured driver, with 45 years behind the wheel for the company. In that time, he has logged nearly 5 million miles of driving.
“I just want to do my job out on the road,” said Kramberg. “DTI lets me do that. They have good benefits and insurance and profit sharing and really good people. That’s why I’ve stayed all this time. This trailer for drivers was a really nice surprise. I never expected anything like that.”
The driver appreciation trailer is the newest of the company’s custom designs. In recent years DTI added four military-themed trailers to its fleet that were created to honor members of the U.S. Armed Forces, past and present.
DTI offers challenging and rewarding career opportunities and is currently hiring drivers at all 12 DTI distribution centers across the country and 35 terminal locations to meet the unprecedented demand for products. DTI has both delivery and no-touch freight positions available and offers a variety of schedule options.
DTI drivers received two pay increases this year, raising their mileage rate 11 percent and giving them the potential to take home up to an additional $4,700 in 2021. Driving careers come with great earnings potential, and the average fleet-wide salary for drivers at DTI is now $92,000.
DTI’s pay structure is also activity-based, something that sets the company apart from other carriers. Drivers are paid for every part of their job, including mileage, stops, pickups, deliveries, layovers, detentions, drop and hook, and more.
Drivers receive a medical plan worth more than $22,000, paid vacation after six months, a 401(k) with company match, and profit sharing. Drivers are also part of the company’s bonus program, making them eligible for quarterly and annual bonuses.
FleetOwner Magazine named DTI the 2021 Private Fleet of the Year for its work going above and beyond for their customers and drivers during the pandemic. The company was honored as a Top Company for Women to Work for in Transportation by the Women in Trucking Association again in 2021. Dot Foods was also certified as a Great Place to Work® this year.
For those interested in a driving career but who do not have a class A commercial driver’s license (CDL), the company offers tuition reimbursement for truck-driving school.
