MT. STERLING, Ill. – Dot Foods, North America’s largest food industry redistributor, recently made a $4,000 donation to the Mt. Sterling Community Center YMCA. Dot donates to the local YMCA annually to support its programs and facilities. The YMCA donation was part of a big first quarter of giving for the company.
The Mt. Sterling YMCA was founded in 2004 with the backing of Dot’s founders Robert (RT) and Dorothy Tracy, Dot employees, and the Tracy Family Foundation. To honor Dorothy, the YMCA named their community garden after her last year. Dot’s employees continue to follow in their founders’ footsteps through volunteering at the YMCA through Teaming with Local Charities (TLC), Dot’s employee volunteer program. Dot also encourages employees to be YMCA members by subsidizing their membership fees and contributing to entry fees for leagues and classes.
The YMCA offers a wide variety of programs and services for the area. Over 1,000 children have participated in their youth programs as of April 2022. They also donate food, provide programs for cancer survivors, host community clean-up projects, and organize several other initiatives.
“Because of the financial support from Dot and other financial donors, the Y has made a huge impact in Brown County and beyond,” said Jeff Summers, executive director of the Mt. Sterling Community Center YMCA. “Together, Dot and the YMCA will continue to strengthen the foundation of our local community through promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.”
