MT. STERLING, Ill. – Dot Foods, North America’s largest food industry redistributor, donated $20,000 to the Brown County Community Unit School District #1. With this money, the district purchased some new lockers for their elementary school and installed them in time for the new school year.
Education is a key focus area for Dot’s philanthropy. “It started with our co-founder Dorothy Tracy,” said Suzy Parn, head of Dot’s corporate charitable committee. “Education was very important to her. She had a bachelor’s in education and filled in as a substitute teacher in the Mt. Sterling area. She instilled many values in our company, including our support of local schools.”
According to Brown County Elementary School Principal Lisa K. Hannel, the new lockers are a big improvement:
The old ones [lockers] did not have all the hooks needed to hold the students’ belongings, and many of them had problems opening and staying closed. This doesn’t look nice, and when things are hanging out or laying on the floor, it is a safety hazard. The students love their new lockers and treat them nicely. We are very thankful for your generous gift for our students.
In addition to the school lockers, Dot Foods Mt. Sterling gave over $100,000 in donations in the third quarter of their fiscal year, including:
