Dot Foods President Dick Tracy was honored with the 2019 Roger Milliken Career Achievement Award during the GS1 Connect 2019 conference's general session on June 19 at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center in Denver.
The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding innovation and leadership in the application of GS1 Standards and industry best practices to improve supply chain collaboration.
"At Dot Foods, we value the work that GS1 US does for our business and are humbled they would recognize us for our efforts in this space," Tracy said.
Data quality is a strategic priority for Dot Foods. The company began using the GS1 Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) standards more than two decades ago, and then in 2009, Dot became a founding member of the Foodservice GS1 US Standards Initiative and began synchronizing product data via the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN).
The initiative transformed the Dot Expressway®, Dot's e-commerce platform, so customers could see and search for such product attributes as ingredients, allergens, images, and case dimensions.
"GS1 standards have made it possible for us to improve the way we do business and serve our customers. They have led to us having more accurate information on our products and enabled us to become more efficient in our business transactions," Tracy said. "Things like unique product numbers, pallet license plates, and advance ship notices would not be possible without GS1 US. But we need collaboration across the industry to improve them. We are happy to contribute in any way we can."
This wasn't the first award GS1 US has bestowed on Dot Foods.
During GS1 Connect 2017, Dot Foods was awarded the GS1 US Operational Excellence Award alongside Target. That award recognizes companies who successfully applied GS1 Standards to improve business processes, operations, industry collaboration, and/or the consumer experience. Tracy and Director of E-commerce Debbie Bower also received the 1WorldSync Compass Award and 1WorldSync Community Award.
In addition to Tracy's 2019 award, GS1 US also recognized four companies with 2019 GS1 US Excellence Awards: Procter & Gamble, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOLHS), Saladino's Foodservice, and Temptime.
