Dot has tackled one of foodservice's most difficult tasks: getting samples to potential buyers efficiently.
Our Sample Express program allows food manufacturers to ship samples through their normal supply chain -- using a single, simple web-based system. Sample Express even helps determine which channel is most cost-effective for each sample program.

Dot manages Sample Express with our network of personnel, warehouses, technology and fleet. The manufacturer receives an electronic invoice every 4 weeks with exact costs, product information, who placed the order, shipping address, etc.

Sample Express offers 3 routes:
Whatever the route, Sample Express transforms the laborious manual process of ordering samples into a user-friendly service for all channel partners. No more lost samples, forgotten or late orders, or time wasted on getting a single product to a critical meeting.

Route 1 - Small shipments via Fed Ex - 10 case maximum
This route is perfect for small shipments and/or those that come up at the last minute. Dot stocks and ships samples - cases or inner packs -- to virtually any address. This route is a fast and effective way to ensure samples arrive for last-minute meetings or important product presentations. Orders can be placed and tracked by phone or on the Dot Expressway (http://www.dotexpressway.com).

Route 2 - Shipments via Dot truck to distributors - 10 case minimum
Most brokers and direct reps already have established relationships with distributors who are willing to receive and cross-dock sample shipments. Dot can also help establish a distributor partner with one of our many regular customers in that market. The lead-time for these orders can be as low as 2 working days, since the shipments are coming in on the Dot truck.

By using Sample Express, samples never need to be pulled from stock, bundled and deducted by the distributor. Instead, the distributor simply receives the sample delivery and sets it aside for the broker. The best part about this is that the broker can consolidate orders from all their principals into one! Sound familiar?

Route 3 - Shipments direct to broker offices - 50 case minimum
Route 3 helps brokers restock their sample showrooms without the additional expense and logistics of working through distributors. As in Route 2, the broker can make up the required minimum from multiple manufacturers instead of a single manufacturer.

Route 3 shipments require a 50-case minimum per temperature and have a 5- to 10-day lead-time. Lead-time depends on order placement time and order destination. Orders are usually delivered via common carrier or local distributor, but in some instances via Dot truck (shorter lead time).

In summary, the Sample Express program offers a solution for any size shipment with any type of lead-time. The manufacturer can set minimum and maximum order parameters. The reporting Dot provides allows them to closely manage all costs associated with the sample supply chain, right down to each territory.
