MT. STERLING, Ill. - As part of the Long-Range Strategic Plan (LRSP) to revitalize uptown Mt. Sterling, Dot Foods, one of the area's largest employers, has announced plans to relocate its Dot Country Store to a new 9,400-square-foot location on East Main Street in Mt. Sterling.
Through involvement of the public, private and civic sectors, the LRSP strives to make uptown play a key role in Mt. Sterling's life in a manner that enhances the quality of life of a community in the 21st century. An initial four-phase plan has been laid out through the year 2023 to make significant improvements in all three sectors. The plan highlights include improvements to the Main Street streetscape, water tower, historic architecture and courthouse, as well as increased retail development and private housing opportunities within Mt. Sterling.
As a member of the private sector, Dot has become proactively involved in the vision of the LRSP with the relocation of the Country Store.
"We're hopeful this can be the first of many improvements to uptown Mt. Sterling," said Dot Foods' Chairman Pat Tracy. "This will draw new business and shoppers to the uptown area, which, in turn, will lead to more revenue for the town."
The new facility will occupy the space currently at 113 E. Main Street, as well as the adjoining lots to the east and north. Architect Kiku Obata & Company created the concept design for the facility, which is anticipated to break ground in spring 2013 and be completed by the end of the year.
"We're hoping the project can move swiftly once we break ground," said Tracy. "It will be a great addition to the community."
Along with the Country Store, the new building will feature over 3,700 square feet of storage and office space, as well as a 17,000-square-foot second floor for future development.
