MOUNT STERLING, Ill. - Dot Foods has selected the nameHagel 1891 for its new fine dining restaurant at 115 East Main Street. The name references the original owners of the building and its date of construction. Brothers Joseph and William Hagel opened a hardware and furniture store in the building in 1891.
Dot Foods Vice President of Business Development Scott Stamerjohn said, "When deciding on a name, we thought it was important to choose something that paid tribute to the rich history of the building and community. Many Mount Sterling residents still have fond memories of visiting the hardware store at Christmas to see the holiday toy train display."
Dot Foods decided to open the restaurant on Main Street due to widespread interest in the community. A survey of area residents conducted by the Tracy Family Foundation in June 2013 was done as part of the Mount Sterling Uptown Long-Range Strategic Plan. It revealed one of the community's most-desired attractions was a fine dining restaurant in the Uptown Mount Sterling area.
Mt. Sterling's long-range plan for the area blends new development and renovation of existing structures. Dot's construction of Dorothy's Market, which opened in April 2014, was the first new building to be built on Main Street in more than 40 years. Hagel 1891 joins the revitalization project as the newest addition to Main Street Mount Sterling. It will be located next door to the market and will connect to it through an atrium lobby.
"We're hopeful the new Hagel 1891 restaurant will continue to bring people from around the region to shop, dine and enjoy Mount Sterling, just as Dorothy's Market has," Dot Foods CEO John Tracy said. "It will be exciting to see the transformation as the revitalization project advances, and the town continues to prosper."
Scheduled to open this fall, Hagel 1891 will feature classic American food and a wide selection of California and local wines, premium liquors, and draft and bottled beers. The restaurant will seat approximately 55 patrons at tables and 20 along the bar. It will be open for lunch Tuesday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner will be served Tuesday-Thursday from 4:30-9:00 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 4:30-10:00 p.m. The restaurant will be closed on Monday.
A large banquet room upstairs will be available for luncheons, dinners, parties, business meetings and other private events. The room will be approximately 2,200 square feet and can accommodate up to 100 guests. Reservations are now being accepted for private events beginning in December. Contact Dane Flesner, Hagel 1891's front of house manager, for information or to make a reservation (217.773.7038 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
Hagel 1891 is now hiring for kitchen and wait staff. Positions can be found on Dot Foods' website at www.dotfoods.com/careers.
